The birth of our daughter, Emma, 2014

I am a military spouse, a Mom, an assistant Midwife, a Doula, a Childbirth Educator, placenta specialist, and Hypnobabies Instructor, and currently finishing my training as a Home Birth Midwife.  I am DONA and ICEA trained, and certified in Neonatal Resuscitation and CPR.

Years ago, I fell love with the miracle of pregnancy and childbirth, and over the past 4 years of studies, have become completely enamored with the miracle of pregnancy and incredible feat of childbirth.

I spent 13 years on active duty as a Marine, but have experienced a strong calling and deep passion for Midwifery. I feel that my academic and clinical background has made me a much stronger doula, and has helped to foster incredible professional relationships.

The birth of our son, Rowdy, 2017

After the natural home birth of my amazing child, Emma, my desire to provide guidance to family and friends who are also expecting has only grown stronger; and I have discovered an extreme passion in supporting women on their own extraordinary journeys in pregnancy.  My heart breaks for the too often lack of support and education for mothers during such an emotional and vulnerable time. I feel strongly  compelled to help women take back the natural process of childbirth. I truly believe in the beauty and power of every Mother, and their right to an incredible birth experience!

I am so excited to add this new paragraph! I recently had my son (also at home), and am over the moon to have had ANOTHER incredible birth. It is only because I have been so very fortunate to have had such beautiful experiences that I KNOW they can exist for other families and WANT them for everyone!!!

I hope to have the honor of working with you during this incredible time by providing consistent support and education to you and your partner, so that you may experience the beautiful, positive birth you've imagined!

WHY ME?

PROFESSIONALISM

I value a standard of excellence and education, and follow the highest professional principles. My goal is to provide you a level of service you won't find anywhere else. Your desires are unique, so I offer individualized, educated support without imposing my own beliefs or opinions in order to guide and enable you to make the best personal decisions.

TEAMWORK

Your birth requires a TEAM. Your provider, partner, and whomever else you feel needs to be included. My goal is to help create a cohesive environment, ensuring everyone feels important, respected, and comfortable at their level of involvment. I appreciate the expertise, knowledge, and experience of professional care providers and have an excellent history and rapport with our local doctors and midwives.

DEPENDABILITY

I am on call 24/7 during your pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.  Because I greatly value community over competition, I have wonderful relationships with the other local birth doulas in our community.  This allows me to have unlimited potential for back-up resources in the unlikely event I would be unable to attend, and guarantee your back-up from day one- ensuring she meets your standard of care perfectly.

WISDOM

I am fortunate to have extensive training and education in prenatal care. As an aspiring midwife, I have been blessed with the opportunity to study birth at a collegiate level, and to participate in multiple capacities and roles both at home, and in the hospital. I have also completed a birth skills workshop, and am a certified in neonatal recitation (NRP) and CPR. I admire and respect the women I call my peers, and only recommend those who I feel also have valuable training and expertise and would personally request for my own birth (and I have!).

RESPECT

I strive to understand your needs and provide the best possible care for you and your growing family. I recognize that no two births are the same, and that each family has an absolute right to non-judgmental, evidenced based support in their birthing choices. What matters to me, is you. My goal is to help you find your voice and advocate for your choices.  I value honesty and loyalty, making a sincere promise for 110% transparency and candor at all times.

TACT

I constantly strive to create an environment that allows you to communicate your desires without alienating your care providers. I fully understand my scope of practice and am specialized at providing information per your request in order to empower you to make an informed choice without creating conflict or disrupting the cohesiveness within the birth team.

RESOURCES

One of the benefits of being an experienced doula in the area are the many relationships formed along the way.  I pride myself on the ability to connect you to a wide range of local professionals to satisfy your every pregnancy and postpartum need. From photographers to Midwives, and acupuncturists to local baby wearing gurus, I can confidently direct you to excellent professionals.  Additionally, my classes provide moms and dads a wonderful opportunity to learn from the instructors and one another to connect, gain perspective, and build confidence! My Dear Friends and Colleagues

Christie Gumble- Labor Doula, Childbirth Educator

(also MY doula and favorite back-up!)

(also MY doula and favorite back-up!)

I have been a doula for over 25 years and was a doula long before it ever became popular. I have always had an interest in birth; in fact, when was younger I was acting as a doula to my friends and family before I even knew what the word “doula” meant. In my younger years I discovered I possessed a God given gift to bring a calm presence to women in need. Once this discovery was made, I intended to use it!

In 1993, I completed an internship with Dr. Takey Crist, at the Crist Clinic for Women. The internship resulted in employment and I worked with Dr. Crist in his OB office as well as his birthing center. This is when I realized my passion for birth. I completed my DONA certification and I have since been a professional doula for many years.

Each birth taught me more than the last. I began to realize that birth is not a one dimensional act. It is an act that involves body and mind. Building on this understanding, I became a professional Relaxation Therapist and Meditation Instructor. With this in mind, I obtained a Degree in Psychology and use this philosophy in my doula support as well as my childbirth education.

Since my journey began, I have obtained over 20 years experience in the medical field; most of those years working in OB/GYN. I have also obtained a Degree in Psychology, a DONA certification, a certification in Breastfeeding Counseling, among other birth related certifications...but nothing has taught me more than the wonderful clients who entrusted me in one of the most beautiful times in their lives.

Breastfeeding Support Alicia Corey- IBCLC, RLC

IBCLC

I am a former Marine Staff Sergeant,  devoted mother and step-mother and an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). I began my career as a North Carolina Certified Breastfeeding Peer Counselor with the Women, Infant and Children's (WIC) Program in Onslow County.  As I hold a deep love for all things mommies and babies, serving others as a Breastfeeding Peer Counselor was a perfect starting point for me. I also hold an Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Care and Development as I felt it was an appropriate fit for further insight into the world of breastfeeding.
My personal breastfeeding experience lies with my two handsome nurslings Eli and Ethan.  Eli is almost 4 years old and Ethan is 2 years old(yes, both are still nursing). I never planned on nursing this long but it has become our normal and makes sense for our family. The benefits it continues to provide to my children are endless. I am so proud to join the team and have a great respect and admiration for my friend and cousin, Jennifer Davidson. Much of my approach and attitude about breastfeeding has been influenced by her approach to pregnancy and childbirth. She is truly an amazing woman.
I prefer an approach with as few interventions and supplies as possible as my own experience of nursing at the breast has been very healing for me. I am an experienced working mom and have a love for helping premature babies back to the breast, as I had one myself! I enjoy researching and providing mom's with evidenced based solutions and support. I understand the sensitivities of breastfeeding and am very understanding and supportive of mother's making educated, informed feeding decisions based off their best interests as well as baby's.
I look forward to the opportunity to assist, educate and empower you in your breastfeeding journey and support your goals-no matter how short or long they may be.
